This week I learned that a childhood classmate's life ended from a brutal murder.
It was alleged that her death was a result of domestic violence. While she was savagely gorged, I couldn't help but think of the relief her family must feel having had her remains put to rest. While the details of her death were disturbing, I was less concerned about her body as I was the condition of her soul...her eternal existence.
Many of the clips, comments and information online mentioned how 'sweet' and 'nice' she was. None mentioned that she was a Christian. That doesn't mean she wasn't, but...God knows.
Nonetheless, I choose to believe that she received her salvation from Jesus Christ, is in the place prepared just for her and is wearing her Crown.
But I say all of this because her death got me thinking about the mortality, the unpredictability of our pre-destined time and how we ought not assume that more days are promised.
Then I thought, if I left the earth tomorrow would the people I love really know how I felt about them? Most importantly, would God say, "Well done my good and faithful servant?"
Imagine that, my immediate thoughts were not whether my house was clean enough or if I had enough money saved - two things that I incredulously try to manage every stinkin' day!
I thank God, that in the midst of such an ugly ending to an earthly life, that He is using it for His Glory.
We are to be reminded that our life is not our own. We each have an individual earthly assignment and its our purpose to live it. When the job is done, He calls us home and then, we, too, can receive our Crown.
Today, I smile with hope that my classmate's death was not in vain. I pray that the lives that she touched will know the goodness of God and that He heals and restores us even when our bodies and spirits may be bruised and battered.
While I didn't know my classmate well, I'm sure she would agree - LIFE ON EARTH DOESN'T HAVE TO HURT!
If you are a victim of domestic abuse, please seek help by calling the National Domestic Violence Hotline 800-799-SAFE (7233) or visit http://www.ndvh.org/.
Most important, if you desire eternal salvation, simply call on the name of Jesus Christ. He always answers and never fails you!
